A Tamarindo surf camp at Pura Vida Surf School puts a private room, one coached daytime surf lesson each full day, a guided surf trip, video analysis, all your equipment and round-trip Liberia airport transfer into a single price. Rooms start at $1,185 for the whole room, and from 7 nights an adventure is included free.

A single lesson teaches you what to do. A lesson every day, several days in a row, is what makes your body remember it. That is the entire argument for a camp, and it is why people who have taken scattered lessons for years finally stand up here. What is a surf camp?

What the price covers

A coached session every full day

One daytime surf lesson each full day (7 nights = 6 sessions), planned around the tide, with ISA-certified instructors and never more than three students each.

Your own private room

AC, a private bathroom and the beach 20 meters away. You book the whole room, never a bed in a dorm.

Airport transfer, both ways

We collect you at Liberia (LIR) when you land and take you back at the end. Around an hour and a half each way.

A guided surf trip

One day we drive you to a different break nearby, so you feel a wave that is not the one you have practised on all week.

Video analysis with your coach

Filmed from the water and watched back together. Most people fix more in ten minutes of that than in a whole extra session.

Boards, gear and a rash guard

Unlimited board use for the whole stay, and the Pura Vida rash guard is yours to take home.

An adventure on us, and you still surf.

Stay 7 nights or longer and one adventure is included. We slot it before or after that day's session, so you do not give up a single morning in the water. You just choose which one you want, and we arrange the rest.

Sessions follow the tide rather than a clock, so the hours move. The shape of the day does not.

How much does a surf camp in Tamarindo cost?
Camps are priced per room, not per person, so one price covers everyone sleeping in it. Rooms start at $1,185. The price includes your room, one coached daytime surf lesson each full day, a guided surf trip, video analysis, all equipment and round-trip Liberia (LIR) airport transfer. When you pick a room, the booking page also shows what that comes to per person.
What exactly is included?
Your private room for the whole stay, with AC and a private bathroom, 20 meters from the beach. One coached daytime surf lesson each full day, a guided surf trip to a nearby break, video analysis with your instructor, unlimited board use, a rash guard to keep, and round-trip transfer from Liberia airport. Stay 7 nights or more and an adventure is included free, scheduled around your session so you still surf that day. Meals are not included.
Do I share the room with other people?
Never with strangers. You book the whole room, so it belongs to your booking and nobody else is ever put in it. Travel with friends or family and you share it with them; come on your own and it is yours alone. The only things shared with the rest of the week are the airport van and the surf sessions, which is exactly where you meet everyone.
Is the adventure really free, and do I lose a surf session?
It is free from 7 nights up, and you lose nothing. We schedule the activity before or after your session that day, so you still get your surf. You choose the ATV jungle tour, the zip-line canopy or the catamaran sunset cruise; we arrange it for you, with nothing extra to organise at check-in.
How does booking work?
You pick your dates and room and send a request. We hold that room while we confirm it with the hotel, usually within a few hours, and nothing is charged while you wait. Once it is confirmed we send a secure payment link, and your spot is booked the moment the payment goes through.
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancel more than 30 days before your arrival date for a full refund, minus payment processing fees. Between 30 and 14 days before arrival you get a 50% refund or one free change of dates. Fewer than 14 days before arrival there is no refund, but you can change your dates once, subject to availability. Until you pay, a request can be cancelled at no cost.
Can I book a 5-day or a 7-day surf camp?
Yes, and any length in between. Camps are counted in nights: you pick your arrival and your departure on the calendar and the price adjusts to the nights you book, from 5 nights up to 14. Five nights and seven nights are simply the two most common choices, and 7 is where the free adventure starts, which is why most people end up there.
Do I need surf experience?
None. The camp is built for complete beginners, and instructors take you from your first pop-up on the sand to riding green waves on your own. Intermediates get coached on technique instead, in the same small groups.
What if I do not stand up in my first session?
Then your next session is one-on-one with your coach, at no extra cost. That is the promise: stand up in your first session, or the next one is private, on us.
Can I come on my own?
Yes, and many do. Solo travellers get their own private room at a rate we keep deliberately low, and the camp makes it easy to meet the rest of the week in the water.
Is airport pickup included?
Yes, both ways. We collect you at Liberia International Airport (LIR) when you land and take you back at the end of your stay, about an hour and a half each way. The week arrives together on Sundays and rides in one van. Land on another day and we still collect you, in a run laid on for you alone with a private first session to match, and the booking page shows what that adds before you commit to anything.
What if the waves or the weather are bad?
Costa Rica is tropical, so rain rarely stops surfing. If conditions are genuinely unsafe we move the session at no extra cost. Tamarindo also has one of the most consistent beach breaks in the country, which is exactly why the camp is here.
What should I bring?
Sunblock, a towel and energy. We provide the surfboard, the leash and a rash guard that is yours to keep.
Is Tamarindo a good place to learn?
Yes. It has a sand-bottom beach break that forgives mistakes, water around 27°C all year so no wetsuit is needed, and rideable waves every day of the year rather than a short season.
